MetaMask is a wallet used for Ethereum and it’s ERC-20 tokens such as HEX, BNB, USDT, LINK, and more.
MetaMask is easy to use and very simple to install. All you need is a compatible web browser that allows you to add it as an extension. Compatible browsers are Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Brave.
For Google Chrome users, below is the installation guide on installing and setting up MetaMask wallet.
Installing MetaMask
- In Chrome, click on the 3 dots at the top right corner.
- Mouseover More Tools, then click on Extensions.
- At the top left corner, click on the 3 lines that are next to the words Extensions.
- At the bottom left window, click on “Open Chrome Web Store”.
- In the search, type in “MetaMask”.
- Click on the Extension to install.
Alternatively, you can click on this direct link to the extension.
Setting Up MetaMask
After installing MetaMask, you will be asked to create/generate a backup code. This is needed to access or recover your MetaMask wallet from any web browser with the extension or mobile app.
Store this backup code in a safe place. If you are storing this on your computer, make sure you have virus/internet protection. If left un-secure, your backup code can be copied and all your funds would be at risk.
The final step is to add a passcode. The passcode is used to login to your MetaMask wallet. Once set, you now have the ability to send and receive Ethereum right from your web browser.
MetaMask Wallet Mobile App
Alternatively, you can download and install the MetaMask Wallet for your mobile devices. Compatible with both iOS and Android phones, simply visit your app store and type in MetaMask wallet.
Once you have downloaded the app, you will want to add your existing account/wallet to the mobile app. To do so, use your backup code that was generated when setting up the browser extension.
After your backup code is successfully accepted, all of your Ethereum and tokens will become visible on the mobile app. You will also be free to send and receive cryptocurrency through the app as well.
